Developing Mathematical Thinking And Understanding In The Early Years
To support practitioners to develop mathematical thinking and understanding in the early years. Helping them to identify opportunities to introduce and support young children’s learning.
This course is aimed at practitioners working with 3-5 year olds.
- To consider significant meaningful and creative contexts for mathematical development
- Understand the development of counting skills and how these can be supported
- Learn how to use early mathematical operations in playful contexts
- The find the balance between focused teaching and independent activities
Length of course: 2.5 hours.
Target audience: Teachers, teaching assistants, early years practitioners including childminders.
This course supports the Learning and development area within the Early Years Foundation Stage (2017). Its focus for Ofsted inspection sits within the teaching, learning and assessment judgment area of the Common Inspection Framework (2015).
